Environmental Studies at Rutgers gives students a rich understanding of the social, economic, cultural, and natural dimensions of environmental transformation. It offers a critical interdisciplinary understanding of the relationships between nature and society that have led to degraded environments, unjust distributions of toxicity, and fewer options for healthy lives and sustainable livelihoods. Drawing on courses from twenty departments, representing the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, students learn to think across fields, connect ideas, and apply a variety of approaches to problem solving. Through dynamic coursework, research opportunities, internships, and community-engaged learning, students learn how to interrogate the environmental present as well as work toward more environmentally robust, diverse, and abundant futures.
