A key part of the Environmental Studies degree is developing a strong foundation for thinking carefully and critically about human-environmental relationships through hands-on research experiences.During their senior year, students will conduct independent research projects on a topic of their choosing, which ideally flows out of the student’s interests and expertise gained through their coursework and other experiences.
Students will begin this process by in the Fall semester of their senior year by developing a detailed research plan and exploring a variety of research approaches and data collection strategies. The student will work with a member of the Environmental Studies Affiliated Faculty, who will supervise this process through to its completion.
Finally, students will enroll in the Capstone course in the Spring semester. In this course, students will complete their research project by collecting and analyzing data and by writing a final research report, which they will present at the annual Undergraduate Student Research Symposium in April.
